In a concerted effort to tackle plastic pollution and encourage sustainable waste management, a massive cleanup drive was conducted from Holy Cross Junction to Bata Charali on Wednesday. The event was aimed at discouraging plastic and PET bottle littering while promoting recycling practices.

The highlight of the drive was the installation of three Plastic Banks, set up at three locations to collect plastic waste and PET bottles for recycling. The inaugurations were carried out by key dignitaries:

DMC office by Thungchanbemo Tungoe, CEO, Dimapur Municipal Council

Lotha Colony by Renathung Ezung, Chairman, Lotha Colony, and

Kavijau Colony by Nokchi Jamir, Chairman, Ward 16, Kavijau Colony.

During the event, installation of Plastic Bank was also led by Ward Councillors Nzanbeni Humtsoe and Achum Jami.

The drive was spearheaded by PACE (Packaging Association for Clean Environment), supported by its NGO partner Lakshya and Eco – Warriors Nagaland, in collaboration with DMC and the Nagaland Pollution Control Board.

Eco Warriors Chairman, Lesemew mention that the Plastic Bank is for dry wastes where other Interns of Eco-warriors have worked tirelessly to clean the road, collecting heaps of plastic waste that often clogs drains and pollutes the environment and spreading awareness about recycling and proper waste disposal.

The initiative aims to inspire sustainable practices and ensure a cleaner, greener Dimapur.
