Dimapur Rengma Students’ Union condemns assault on Naga youths

The Dimapur Rengma Students’ Union (DRSU) has condemned the brutal assault of three innocent youths by “criminal gangs masquerading as national workers” on the intervening night of December 17, 2024.

“The DRSU would like to put the record straight that out of the three assaulted victims, two are from the Rengma community, both brothers, one of whom is a student, a bonafide member of the DRSU. Without any hesitation the DRSU would like to stress that the two brothers were assaulted without any rhyme or reason; their only fault being their Good Samaritan attitude to help their friend, the other assault victim, who called the brothers to pick him up (and his partner) who were initially detained by the goons. The police knows where this residence is, for it was the father of the two brothers who led the police to this residence to rescue his sons in the early hours of 17th December 2024 morning,” stated the Union.

Requesting the Dimapur police not to succumb to political pressure in the case, the DRSU has appealed the Dimapur Police to arrest the criminals responsible for the assault, without delay. The Union also reminded on the State government’s notification through the Home department that the perpetrators of all criminal activities in the state will be booked under NSA and will be incarcerated outside the state.

“The DRSU hopes that this notification will be implemented in letter and in spirit. The next 24 hours is going to be very crucial. If arrests are not made within this time frame, the DRSU has no option but to conclude that the police is under political pressure,” asserted the DRSU.
