The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) observed World Environment Day on 5th June, 2024 in the Dimapur State Stadium along with the culmination of the fortnight Single Use and Multi Layered plastic advocacy and prize distribution for the colonies with the maximum collection.
Mhonjan Lotha, President of Team Better Dimapur, delivered a short speech, wherein, he stressed on the lifestyle while dealing with plastic and how as citizens, our whole dependency should not be DMC for collection of such waste but everyone can inculcate habits on controlling these targeted plastic waste.
Additionally, Manpai Phom, Administrator of DMC, delivered the keynote speech where he emphasised on the importance on managing waste and its practice as an integral part of one’s daily life so that plastic waste ceases to be an issue.

Phom further stated that improper disposal of plastic waste was the leading factor for floods in Dimapur during monsoon or after heavy showers of rain. While citing that it was the responsibility of citizens to be aware of how their waste was disposed. He also added that the municipality is also taking up steps to ensure that future calamities are avoided by sensible disposal of plastic waste. He encouraged colonies to collect these two types of plastics separately in an unsoiled manner and special arrangements will be made for their collection by the municipality.
The program was chaired by Lensanaro, DMC and vote of thanks was delivered from Vungthungo Ovung, DMC.
It is also to be noted that the single use and multi layered plastics that have been collected will be processed in an environmentally friendly mode. Further, while in the process, the waste will serve as an alternate fuel ensuring that there is optimum utilisation of energy for the plastic waste.
