Dimapur Deputy Commissioner, Dr Tinojongshi Chang has convened a special meeting of the elected members of the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) on May 22 to consider a motion of no-confidence against the incumbent Chairperson, Hukheto Yepthomi, under the provisions of the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023.
According to an official notification issued by Deputy Commissioner, the notice of intention to move the motion was submitted on May 11 by two elected members of the DMC and was signed by 12 out of the 23 elected members of the Council.
The notification stated that the motion was scrutinized and found to be in conformity with the procedural and substantive requirements laid down under Chapter-II, Section 15 (1) and (2) of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023. It further stated that the motion fulfilled the statutory requirement of support from the required number of elected members.
Following verification of the procedural validity of the motion, the Deputy Commissioner, exercising powers conferred under Section 15 (3) read with Section 15 (4) of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, officially convened the special meeting for consideration of the no-confidence motion.
The meeting would be held on May 22 at 11 a.m. at the office of the Dimapur Municipal Council.
The notification clarified that only the elected members of the DMC will participate in the meeting, while ex-officio and nominated members will remain excluded from the proceedings as per the provisions of the Act.

The Deputy Commissioner has directed all elected members to attend the said special meeting.
The development assumes political significance within the Dimapur Municipal Council, as the outcome of the no-confidence motion could determine the future leadership of the civic body.
