The Dimapur Rengma Students’ Union (DRSU) has expressed its concern over the alleged physical assault on a student in Kohima by fellow students that resulted in life-threatening injuries including a ruptured stomach and subsequent peritonitis.

In a press release, the DRSU condemned the assault of the Class 10 student of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School (DBHSS), Kohima, who is currently battling for his life in the intensive care unit (ICU).

“The DRSU firmly believes that such barbaric acts have no place in any civilized society, especially within educational institutions meant to foster a safe and nurturing environment for students”, President Khiti Kath and Esther Khing, General Secretary, stated. The Union also asserted that the incident was not a mere act of bullying, but a calculated and heinous assault that has had devastating consequences.

Further, the DRSU said it was troubled by the lack of public condemnation on such kind of violence and urged all stakeholders to stand in solidarity against such atrocities.

The student body called for swift and thorough investigation into this incident and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. “We demand that stringent action be taken against those found guilty, in accordance with the law, to serve as a deterrent against future acts of violence,” it added.

Extending support and prayers to the family of the student, it also hoped for a speedy recovery.

Furthermore, the DRSU reiterated its commitment to upholding the values of peace, harmony, and respect within the student community.
