Drugs worth Rs 100 crore seized in Assam’s Karimganj, four arrested

Karimganj: Drug seizure believed to be among largest in Eastern India concerning market value

A major breakthrough was achieved by Special Task Force Assam and Karimganj Police in a joint operation which led to the seizure of 5.1 Kg of Heroin and 64,000 Yaba tablets, worth over Rs 100 crore.

In a significant joint effort between STF and Karimganj Police, led by DIGP (STF) Partha Sarathi Mahanta and SP Karimganj Partha Protim Das, a massive haul of drugs was seized at Suprakandi under Nilam Bazar Police Station around 2:15 pm on Tuesday.

A staggering 5.1 KG of Heroin, 64,000 Yaba tablets, and four packets of foreign cigarettes were confiscated from a Maruti S Presso vehicle bearing registration no. MZ 06 A 1422. The vehicle was seized, and four individuals, namely Nur Ahmed (the driver) from Patharkandi, Karimganj, along with Zosangliani, Ramngheaka, and Lalchamliana, all from Thenzawl, Mizoram, were arrested.

This drug seizure is believed to be among the largest in Eastern India concerning market value. The estimated value of this seizure stands at a minimum of Rs 100 Crore in the current market, which has experienced rising prices due to consistent, effective operations, and assertive measures by the Assam Police.
