District Urban Development Agency, Mon under DAY-NULM organized Women’s Economic Empowerment for Self Help Groups on Friday at Urban Development Office Mon, a DIPR report stated.
Resource Person, Srimoyee Neogi presented some video clips on how others progressed through Self Help Groups. She explained how the Government helps the SHGs by lending money from the bank. Women don’t need to be limited by others and freedom comes through women’s economic empowerment, Neogi added.
While delivering the welcome address K. Temjennaro Longkumer, NCS, ADC and Chairman DUDA, Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) shared her gratitude to the participants. She said that through such programmes SHGs will grow more.
Longkumer said that being a mother, and wife there may be lots of challenges but urged them not to give up and that every woman has her own abilities. Further, she added that the economic empowerment of women is very important, improving the way of living, and improving children’s education, it is also important for self-esteem.

In his short speech, Thungdemo R Humtsoe said that women’s economic empowerment is the capacity of women to participate, contribute and have recognition for their valuable contribution. He said female earning and bargaining power translate into greater investment in children’s education, health, and nutrition, which leads to economic growth in the long term.
L. Wanshom Konyak, Community Organizer, DUDA Mon chaired the programme. A vote of thanks was delivered by Tianungba Longkumer, City Mission Manager, DUDA Mon. An interaction with the participants about their SHGs activities was also conducted in the programme.
