The 33rd Nagaland State Taekwondo Championship under the theme ‘Strike for glory’ concluded in Kohima on 14 July with Department of Youth Resources and Sports (DYRS) emerging as the team champion.
DYRS won with a total of 23 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze, while Kohima district with 11 gold, 7 silver and 11 bronze placed in the second position.

Phek district was selected as the team with the best discipline from among the nine districts.
There were four categories including sub-junior under the age 11, cadet under the age of 14, junior under the age of 17, and senior above the age of 17 which were further divided in weight categories.
DYRS director, Kethosituo Mepfhüo, in his speech mentioned that he hoped Taekwondo would be the next sport which would propel Nagaland to enter into the Olympics. He said that the state government was taking all steps to encourage sports while ensuring that athletes get rewarded for their dedication.
He added that the government was working on a set of guidelines for the welfare of the sportspersons in any discipline to enable them to obtain advanced coaching and training in India and abroad which would open up the doors for talented and hard working athletes. Mepfhüo also assured that the department of youth resource and sports is committed to promote sports in the state.
The prize distribution was chaired by Nagaland Taekwondo Association Secretary (admin), Neitho-o Kuotsu, a brief note on the achievements of Nagaland Taekwondo was shared by vice president, Visabiu Peseyie. A special number was presented by Nourhengunuo Zatsu while secretary (technical), Santsuthung Ngullie proposed the vote of thanks.
