A practical demonstration on seedling plantation was conducted by Limthure Yimkhuing, Forest Guard. He explained that Pine saplings thrive best at altitudes between 1,000–1,500 feet and require spacing of 20–30 feet between each plant. A pit of at least one foot is necessary for healthy root development.
Acacia, an evergreen and decorative species, should be planted with a spacing of 10–15 feet. Extra care is required when handling these seedlings, especially when used for roadside or compound greening.
Special Guest Longdiba L Sangtam, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kiphire, appreciated the department’s initiative and encouraged the beneficiaries to contribute to environmental conservation by planting and nurturing the distributed saplings.
A total of 500 saplings were distributed during the programme, including species such as Pine, Acacia, Ashok, Ajar, Cherry, and Nahor.
The event aimed to foster a culture of environmental responsibility among cooperative societies while also celebrating the symbolic connection between nature and motherhood.
