Empowering Poultry Farmers and Community Animal Health Workers

In a collaborative effort between the District Management Unit FOCUS-IFAD Project, Kohima District, and Chief Veterinary Office under the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Kohima, a two- day training session was successfully conducted for poultry farmers and Community Animal Health Workers (CAHWS). The event took place at the Chief Veterinary Office Conference Hall, Kohima on November 23 and 28.

The training aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of poultry farmers and CAHWS, contributing to the overall development of the local animal husbandry sector. Participants had the opportunity to delve into valuable insights provided by distinguished resource persons, Dr. Elizabeth Yhome, Veterinary Surgeon, and Dr. N. Suokhrie, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, who led the sessions on both days.

Dr. Elizabeth Yhome and Dr. N. Suokhrie, with their extensive expertise, covered a range of topics crucial to poultry farming and community animal health. The engaging and informative sessions included care & management of poultry, biosecurity measures, diseases of poultry, economic diseases of livestock and diseases of livestock & its prevention and control (CSF/FMD), providing practical insights and hands-on knowledge to the attendees. Pig catcher was also distributed to the Community Animal Health Workers under FOCUS project.
