Eastern Nagaland Peoples Organisation (ENPO) has asked its seven tribal bodies to ban any election related campaign by any parties and candidature declaration program in their respective jurisdiction.

The directive comes following a resolution adopted by the ENPO on 26 August at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur whereby it was decided that people of Eastern Nagaland would not participate in any election process of the state and central unless their demand for a separate statehood ‘Frontier Nagaland’ is fulfilled.

ENPO President R Tsapikiu Sangtam, speaking to Nagaland Tribune, said the decision to ban election campaigns and declaration of candidates is to give more clarity to its people as reports of election campaigns and declaration of candidates from Eastern Nagaland have been circulating. Since ENPO has resolved not to participate in any election process, there should be no declaration of candidates or election related campaigns in the Eastern area jurisdiction till Frontier Nagaland demand is finalised, the president added.

ENPO has endorsed its seven tribal bodies to mobilise people at the grassroots for ensuring success of this move.
