The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) has made an earnest appeal to the members of the Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union (ENLU) to respect and honour the decision of the citizen of Eastern Nagaland and by “choosing to remain indoors” and “abstain from voting will prevent any untoward incidents”.

ENPO maintained that its intention is to “avoid any misunderstandings or unnecessary confrontations on polling day” cautioned that there may be “public commotion” if the people’s Representatives decide to cast their votes.

Disregarding the resolution of the ENPO, ENLU had on Tuesday called upon the people of the region to cast their franchise.

In a letter to the 20 Legislators from Eastern Nagaland, ENPO highlighted that the resolution to abstain from participating the Lok Sabha elections to be held in the State on 19th April 2024 “represents the collective voice of our community, echoing our shared grievances and concerns regarding the neglect and disregard shown towards our region’s welfare and aspirations by the successive governments.”

The apex organization stated that the decision is a “unified display of discontent and frustration towards the government’s failure to fulfill its promises” and “serves as a poignant reminder of the urgency with which our longstanding issues must be addressed and resolved.”

While acknowledging the stand of the Legislators, ENPO implored them to recognize the broader significance of this decision beyond individual political affiliations. The ENPO also reminded them of its assurance that “any citizen of Eastern Nagaland including the Hon’ble Elected Members and Government Servants facing repercussions for abiding by the decision of the citizen of EN through voluntary abstention from voting WOULD STAND PROTECTED by the citizen of Eastern Nagaland under any circumstances.”

Further, it stated that standing united in the resolve would send “a powerful message to the outside world about the strength of our community and our unwavering determination to secure a better future for ourselves and generations to come.”
