Defying the directives and resolution of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) to abstain from participating in the Lok Sabha elections, the Eastern Nagaland Legislators have appealed to the general public of Eastern Nagaland to vote on 19th April.

“As elected representatives of our people, we acknowledge and are mindful of the resentment with regard to the FNT demand. However, abstention from the Lok Sabha Polls would rather hinder the progress of the talks”, Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union (ENLU) stated in its statement.

The Legislators also urged the people of the region to be “pragmatic and insightful” for the future since the current status of Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) has been made known to the people through the Working Paper.

“In order to enjoy the rights, we must also exercise our duties”, they said, “sincerely” reiterating their assurance in extending all “co-operation to the negotiation process once the popular government is formed at the centre”.

ENLU also appealed to all stakeholders “not to disrupt this democratic process in the greater interest of our general public.”
