The complete shutdown in all six districts of Eastern Nagaland called by the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) affected normal life in Kiphire on Monday. Movement of people and vehicles were restricted, business establishments remained shut and all offices and schools remained closed on the first day of the ‘Total Shutdown’.
ENPO had earlier declared a state of ‘Public Emergency’ across Eastern Nagaland as it continued it demand for the settlement of Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) which was assured by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

Volunteers, deployed at all important points in Kiphire town, maintained strict surveillance ensuring that the directives given by the apex organization was adhered. Even farmers were stopped from going to their fields.
The Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Kiphire was closed down by the volunteers and all other government offices.
It was also reported that a convoy of the Assam Rifles enroute to Kiphire was stopped by volunteers at Longmatra Town under Kiphire and sent back.
On Monday evening, ENPO announced that the ‘Total Shutdown’ would continue until further notice.
Earlier, a 12-hour shutdown was conducted on 9th March 2024 across the Eastern Nagaland districts of Mon, Tuensang, Longleng, Kiphire, Noklak, and Shamator.
