Education must go beyond acquiring information and qualifications to building character, discipline and a sense of responsibility towards society, Senior Superintendent of Police Vesupra Kezo, NPS, said while addressing the 67th Foundation Day celebration of Fazl Ali College on September 8.
Speaking as Guest of Honour at the college auditorium, Kezo described a college as more than infrastructure and facilities, calling it a “temple of new ideas and innovations” where young people discover possibilities, develop their thinking and prepare to contribute to a better society.
“Privileges come with responsibilities,” he said, stressing that true education should prepare young people for life. He noted that Fazl Ali College had produced generations of students who had gone on to contribute to society.
The police officer also cautioned students about the challenges of living in a technology-driven world, observing that people today are “overloaded with information yet information is not wisdom.” Technology, he said, cannot provide discipline, character and a sense of responsibility towards the community.
Kezo particularly addressed students on the growing concerns surrounding drug abuse, cybercrime and the use of artificial intelligence. He warned that a single wrong decision related to drugs could destroy not only an individual’s future but also relationships and the wider community.
Urging students to protect their dreams and those around them, he called for responsible use of technology as a platform for learning, creativity and building the future rather than harming others.
“Artificial Intelligence should not be a threat,” Kezo said, stressing that AI should be used as a tool to enhance human thinking rather than allowing it to think on people’s behalf.
He emphasised the continuing importance of integrity, empathy, compassion, creativity and humanity in an increasingly technology-driven society. Students, he said, should not allow technology to determine their self-worth but should instead build character, discipline and respect.
“The real identity of the college lies in these traits of its students,” he said, adding that the true test of education comes when society judges how a person has achieved something, rather than merely what has been achieved.
Earlier, Principal Dr I Wati Imchen delivered the Foundation Day address, highlighting the college’s achievements, activities, developments and progress over the years. The programme began with the singing of the college anthem.
Kezo congratulated the Fazl Ali College family and expressed gratitude to the institution’s pioneers and former members, saying the Foundation Day was an occasion to remember, honour and celebrate the college’s journey while looking forward to a brighter future.
Additional SP Bunglang Chang and DYSP Reserve Imlitemjen were also present at the programme.
The event was chaired by Dr Shokip Tumtin, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry. The Music Club and Drama Club presented a special song and drama, respectively, while Assistant Professor Kushemyimjong Chang of the Department of Political Science pronounced the closing prayer.
Students, faculty members, awardees, parents and guests came together to mark the college’s 67-year journey of growth and achievement.

This award was started to encourage young learners to maintain quality of life as a Christian and fulfill the academic standards as expected by the college. The EU student of the year 2026 was awarded to Thailung Phom.

Three cadets from NCC were also awarded for their outstanding performance in different fields.
