Kohima: Under Government of India (GoI) the state could customize 16 Nos. Vehicles for 12 districts, once each for Elisa Laboratory, Veterinary Field Assistant Training Institute, Vaccine Bank and State level monitoring centre.

16 Mobile Veterinary Units flagged off on 21 October.

The ceremony was flagged off by Union Cabinet Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India Parshottam Rupala along with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.

Union Minister Parshottam Rupala in his speech mentioned that MVUs is a brain child of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. People will come to know how good and helpful the initiative of MVUs is once they have access to it. This will not only help farmers but also change the scenario of the Animal Husbandry Department, he added.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in his speech stated that in a difficult terrain like Nagaland, this is a milestone that would really help fulfil the needs of the farmers. He also appreciated and thanked the Union Minister for his support.

The main objective of the MVU scheme is to increase accessibility of Veterinary Services to the Farmer’s Doorstep. The scheme is a component of establishment and strengthening of Veterinary Hospitals and Dispensaries sponsored by the Government of India, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying to the States on 100 percent Central Assistance under Livestock Health & Disease Control Programme (LH&DC).

Mobile Veterinary Unit are customised and equipped to provide Veterinary Health Care through a single window delivery system in the form of making Diagnosis, Treatment, Minor Surgeries, Collection of Samples, Vaccinations and Artificial Insemination (AI) etc.

Under Government of India (GoI) the state could customize 16 Nos. Vehicles for 12 districts, once each for Elisa Laboratory, Veterinary Field Assistant Training Institute, Vaccine Bank and State level monitoring centre.

The induction of the vehicles is envisaged to benefit livestock farmers especially in a state like Nagaland where connectivity is a main constrain for providing effective and timely Veterinary service.

Earlier welcome address was delivered by Chief Secretary J Alam while speeches were delivered by the Union Cabinet Minister and Chief Minister following the fag-off of the MVUs.
