The first edition of the Arm Wrestling Championship organised by Forge Warriors was held on Saturday at the Police Ground, Alichen, with around 90 participants taking part in the arm-wrestling competition and approximately 200 people attending the event.

The championship featured three weight categories – Lightweight (below 65 kg), Middleweight (65–80 kg) and Heavyweight (80 kg and above).

In the arm-wrestling competition, Anky emerged champion in the Lightweight category, while Moakum won the Middleweight category. Ekongmen secured the championship in the Heavyweight category.

The runners-up were Seliba Thonger in the Lightweight category, Imlisunep in the Middleweight category and Toshiakum in the Heavyweight category.

The event also featured a tug-of-war competition, which was won by Lean Wolf Gym.

Participants came from different gyms, including Wolf Gym, Mokokchung, 707 Gym and 3B Gym, besides participants from the Alichen area.

Shreemati Kurpreet Gaur, IPS, Chief Assistant Commandant, graced the occasion as the chief guest in place of P Bendangchuba Jamir, NPS, Commandant, 2nd NAP Alichen.

Addressing the gathering, Shreemati Kurpreet Gaur, IPS, Chief Assistant Commandant, who graced the occasion in place of the Commandant, congratulated Forge Warriors for organising its first-ever arm-wrestling championship and described the initiative as an important platform to channel the energy, spirit and competitiveness of the youth in a positive direction.

She conveyed the Commandant’s greetings and appreciation to the organisers, noting that he could not attend the programme due to his official duties.

Gaur said that, as a police officer, she had witnessed many talented young people with good minds and strong physiques falling into undesirable activities. In this context, she said that sporting initiatives such as the championship could help provide young people with a constructive avenue to utilise their energy and abilities.

She further congratulated the Forge Warriors team for taking the initiative and encouraged the young participants who had registered for the championship to continue pursuing sports and competitive activities.

The programme included an invocation by Sashi, Pastor, PBC Alichen, presentation by Sentijungla Imchen, and the vote of thanks delivered by Limasunep, President, Forge Warriors. The programme concluded with a benediction by  Imsuwati, Associate Pastor, Youth, ABC.

The championship was organised by Forge Warriors as part of its initiative to provide a platform for arm-wrestling and strength-based sporting activities in the area.
