Former State Chaplain Rev K. Luruo passes away; CM Rio conveys condolence Kohima

Rev. K. Luruo, who served as Nagaland State Chaplain from 2009-2015, passed away on 24th January 2025.

In a condolence message, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed sadness over his demise and conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of the Nagaland Government.

Rio mentioned that he had worked closely with Rev. K. Luruo during the latter’s tenure as State Chaplain and “found him to be passionate and committed to his calling.”

The CM stated: He was also an untiring advocate of unity and brotherhood among the Naga communities. Indeed, the spiritual lessons he had given to the legislators during his dedicated service as the State Chaplain will always be remembered and cherished.

Rev. K. Luruo had earlier also served as the Education Secretary of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council and the Executive Secretary of Chakhesang Baptist Church Council.

The Chief Minister also stated that Rev Luruo’s demise is a huge loss for the Naga society, in general, and the Chakhesang community in particular. However, let us thank God for his remarkable life and ministry, Rio added.

Biography

Rev. Khrütsoi Luruo is the eldest son of Lt.Mr. Sokhruyi Luruo. He was born on 5th of May 1940 and did his primary school education in the village. He did his matriculation in 1961 from Government High School, Kohima. He did his P.U. course in St. Edmund’s College, Shillong (1961-1963). He served as Headmaster of Middle English School, Phusachodu (1963-64). Thereafter he continued his studies and did Bachelor of Arts at Union Christian College, Barapani, Meghalaya (1969). He has undergone layman Bible study training at Kotagori, Nilgiri Hills, Chennai for a year. Then in 1970 he was appointed as Assistant teacher at Government High School, Chozuba. Thereafter he was deputed to undergo Bachelor of Teaching in Gauhati University (1970-71). After which he was appointed as the Vice Principal of Junior Teachers’ Training, Chiechama in 1971. He served as Headmaster of Eastern Christian School, Chozuba from 1972 to 1986. Thereafter he went to the United States for Theological studies, and did his M.A. in theology at the International Seminary attached to William Carey University, Pasadena. On returning he was appointed as the Education Secretary to the Nagaland Baptist Church Council for a period of 5 years. He then served as the Executive Secretary, Chakhesang Baptist Church Council from 1994 to 2009. Presently he is serving as the State Chaplain of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
