In a touching tribute to his late mother, Janben Khuvung, a dedicated taxi driver who usually plies the Wokha-Kohima route, put up an offer for free rides exclusively for mothers on May 10. This heartwarming gesture not only celebrates Mother’s Day but also marks the fifth anniversary of his mother, late Lankono Khuvung’s passing.

Departing from Wokha at 8 AM and returning from Kohima at 2 PM, the free rides have been made available to mothers traveling between these two district headquarters. Pick-up points included: Taxi Parking area in Kohima and Tiyi Counter (Taxi Point) in Wokha.

Seats were allocated on a first-come-first-served basis, ensuring that mothers visiting their children or returning to their families could partake in this heartfelt journey.

Janben’s initiative was deeply inspired by his mother’s legacy of kindness and service. Her passing left a void, but Janben found a way to keep her spirit alive through this act of generosity.

Speaking to Nagaland Tribune, Janben says that he initiated this to support mothers who might not have easy access to transportation, enabling them to visit loved ones or attend special events dedicated to Mother’s Day.

He acknowledged the guidance and support from the All Nagaland Taxi Wokha Unit, which played a pivotal role in bringing this idea to fruition. Their assistance ensured that the logistics were in place, and the initiative could reach those who would benefit most.

Janben expressed hope that through this act, he is able to spread love and joy, honouring the spirit of motherhood and encouraging others to share kindness in their own ways. He believes that small acts of kindness can create ripples that positively impact the community.
