Fruit & vegetable dehydration and processing skill training underway in Phek

The “Skilled and Empowered Phek” (Indo Myanmar borders) initiative, a free six-week skill development training program on fruit and vegetable dehydration and processing, was inaugurated on February 11 at Tourist Lodge, Phek by Superintendent of Police, Phek, Dr. Pritpal Kaur, IPS. The training is organized by NTTC and Phek Police in collaboration with Women VDB Phek Village.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Kaur encouraged Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and school dropouts to explore entrepreneurship opportunities through food processing. She emphasized that farming is the backbone of every society, and income from processed food products can help farmers meet their economic needs. She also urged school dropouts to acquire new skills and strive for self-sufficiency rather than falling into drug addiction and other intoxicants.

Olive Awomi, a trainer from NTTC, provided an overview of various food processing techniques and conducted hands-on training for participants.

Earlier, the program began with an invocation by Rev. Vesito Venuh, followed by a welcome address from Huvekholu Keyho, Women VDB Secretary. Ms. Kuzhonolu Huire chaired the event, which saw participation from over 40 SHG members.

The training aims to equip participants with practical skills in food processing, opening avenues for self-employment and economic growth in the region.
