The National Socialist Council of Nagalim- Isak and Muivah (NSCN-IM) has said that the Framework Agreement, which it signed with the Government of India on 3rd of August 2015, is being threatened by GoI’s divide and rule policy. Claiming that the Indian Government has made “many agreements” with all Naga factions, NSCN-IM stated, “This kind of divides and rules policy stands on the way to an honorable solution.”

In its latest statement, the group has also said that GoI “should not nourish the false hope of winning over the hearts of the Nagas with colonial mantra or hooking the Nagas with development bait”, adding that such policy will never bring Naga people closer to India.

Giving the timeline of the Indo-Naga political issue upto the signing of the document in 2015, NSCN-IM stated that the Framework Agreement “was built upon the universal democratic principles of mutual respect and recognition of rights, and the harmonious interdependent relationship of peoples and nations, we believe no powers or no forces however big and strong they may be, could be able to tear it down”.

The Framework Agreement speaks about –

  1. i) the recognition of unique history of the Naga independence,
  2. ii) the recognition of sovereignty of the Naga people,
  3. iii) the mutual agreement of co-existence of the two entities (India and Nagas) sharing sovereign power.
Moreover, in the competencies it also says:
  4. iv) the recognition of land stating that Nagas are the owners of their land – everything on its surface and beneath of it.
  5. v) the recognition of the legitimate right of the Nagas to integrate all Naga areas.

The NSCN-IM reasserted that it will uphold the Framework Agreement at all time, which it believes will bring peace and prosperity to the “Naga Country” and the Indian sub-continent. However, the “deceit and double-dealing” of the Government of India on the Naga issue threatens it, the group stated.
