GPS Forest Ward wins Swachhata Hi Seva competition in Pungro town

Kiphire: 839 students from 7 schools under Pungro collect as many as eight pick-up truck loads of garbage

Government Primary School Forest Ward, Pungro Town in Kiphire district was awarded the best performing school at the ‘Garbage Free Pungro’ competition held under the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign on Saturday. The school was among seven participating schools and was represented by 21 students from Classes 1 to 4.

The GPS was awarded cash and certificate while the other schools also received certificates of appreciation for participation.

The cleanliness drive cum competition was organised by the District Administration Pungro along with Pungro Champions under the theme ‘Garbage Free Pungro’.

Each school was designated as ‘cleanliness team’ in their allocated jurisdiction for garbage collection. The campaign that started at 8:30 am and culminated at 11:00 am at the Traffic Point, Pungro town where a short program was held. EAC Yitachu Thur, NCS, administered the swachhata pledge, brand ambassador of Swacchata Hi Seva campaign, Throngso, Advisor to Pungro Town Students’ Union, informed.

It was also informed that 839 students and 64 teachers from seven different schools under Pungro actively participated in the campaign, collecting as many as eight pick-up truck loads. Following which the garbage was dispose in the dumping site by the District Administration, team Garbage Free India Campaign and labourers.

The program was chaired by Koraktsang, Team Captain, Swacchata Hi Seva, Executive Chairman, Pungro Town Students Union.
