Hands on training on value added fish products held at Tseminyu

The Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Tseminyu organised a one-day hands on training on value added fish products at Zesinyu village community hall, Tseminyu on September 24, for the women self-help groups/ Individual entrepreneurs. A total of 20 members from women self-help groups and individual participated from nearby villages in the program.

Addressing the participants, District Fishery Officer, Tseminyu, Khriezhatuo Nakhro emphasized the need to diversify and incorporate more products within the respective SHGs portfolio for better financial gains. He stressed that with the changes in the consumers’ habits, many are shifting to a healthier lifestyle and fish being considered to be one of the healthiest meat-based products as per World Health Organisation, consumption of fish in various forms is on the rise in the state. Likewise, in extension fish-based value-added product are healthier than other meat counterparts.

He also encouraged the participants to explore this possibility as it has good scope to expansion for commercial gains for which the department is prepared to provide technical and marketing linkage support.

The hands-on training was conducted by master trainers from Kohima District Fishery Officer led by Inspector Neikuonuo, Chakrunuo, Takasenla and Visetuo Theunuo who taught on various aspects of fish pickle making, fish fingers, fish balls and fish soups etc.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Chothichu Rhakho, AFI Tseminyu.
