The Pfuchatsumia Youth Organisation and Dapfhütsumia Youth Organisation have directed all heavy vehicle owners, drivers and transporters to stop using two local roads in Kohima with immediate effect, citing concerns over road damage and public safety.

The restriction comes in the wake of the closure of the Phesama road, which has led to a sharp increase in the movement of heavily loaded trucks, including vehicles bound for Manipur and other districts, through local roads that are not designed to handle heavy commercial traffic.

The two roads where heavy vehicles have been prohibited are: DBS Road, from P Khel to Seikhazu Junction, D. Khel (Rheichalie Road); and Khuya, near Medical College to BSF Camp, Keyake Road, P Khel.

The youth organisations said the continued movement of heavy commercial vehicles along these routes was causing damage to the roads and creating risks for public safety.

As an alternative, all heavy vehicles have been directed to use National Highway-150.

The organisations said the decision was taken in the interest of public safety, road preservation and smooth traffic movement, and urged all concerned to strictly comply with the notice.

They further cautioned that violations would be dealt with by the concerned authorities.
