Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) led by Joint Secretary (DM-II), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, M Ramachandrudu, IAS, visited Mon Town on August 13 to verify the spot detail assessment of damage in the wake of landslides, flash flood, flood in Nagaland during the 2026 monsoon season.
MLA & Advisor, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe in his short speech said that it was an unfortunate incident that happened on July 19 at Mon. He encouraged the people that the state as well as the Centre Government had a great concern for the incident and is looking forward to take precaution for the future.
Joint Secretary (DM-II), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, M Ramachandrudu, IAS, said that the team had surveyed and have witnessed the damages caused and the losses of the people. He assured to take all possible assistance to restore the damaged.
During a short briefing Deputy Commissioner Mon, Wennyei Konyak, briefed the disaster situation in the District stating that continuous heavy rainfall has triggered floods and landslides in several locations. Roads, bridges and public infrastructure have suffered extensive damage. Many villages experienced temporary disruption of road connectivity. Heavy rainfall triggered multiple landslides across Mon District. He also presented a short video on a picture of incessant monsoon rainfall on July 19-20 triggered catastrophic landslide and flash floods across Mon District, causing loss of life, widespread destruction of homes, severe agricultural losses and total blockage of critical connectivity arterial routes in the district.
Later the team along with the District Administration headed by the DC, Superintendent of Police, Civil Societies headed by KU, KSU and KNSK visited and surveyed the 19th July 2026 landslide-affected area at Defence Colony, Thamnan Ward and adjoining areas.
MOKOKCHUNG:
A briefing session with the Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) led by Ramachandrudu, IAS, Joint Secretary (DM-II), Ministry of Home Affairs was held by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) at Tuliyong Community Hall, Tuli Sub-Division on August 12 to apprise the team of the disaster situation in Mokokchung district.
The programme was chaired by Imsenperong Wati, NCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Tuli. The session included with a keynote address by Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner & Chairman, DDMA Mokokchung, followed by a briefing on the disasters reported in the district during 2026 by Temsuwangshi Jamir, Nodal Officer, DDMA Mokokchung. The briefing was also attended by A. Panjung Jamir, Advisor, Fisheries & Aquatic Resources and Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe, Advisor, NSDMA.
An interaction session was also held between the members of the IMCT, District Administration and other Officials. The briefing was followed by a site visit by the IMCT to the disaster affected areas in Tuli Sub-division to assess the ground situation.
LONGLENG:
A briefing session with the Inter Ministerial Central Team was held to review the disaster caused by natural calamities during the ongoing monsoon season in Longleng and Tuensang since July 19. The team was led by, IAS, Joint Secretary (DM-II) Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, M. Ramachandrudu. The briefing session was held on August 12, at the DPDB Hall, Longleng.
Chairing the programme ADC & CEO, DDMA Longleng, Thungchanbemo Tungoe, said the presence of dignitaries is a “great source of inspiration” to the people of Longleng district. Welcoming officials on behalf of the district administration and the public, the ADC stated that the meeting was crucial to highlight the ground reality and challenges faced by the district and to seek assistance for restoration and rehabilitation.

The district has been severely affected by widespread and unprecedented landslides that have damaged not only major roads but also inter-village connectivity. Longleng was virtually cut off from the rest of the state, disrupting movement of people, essential commodities, relief material and emergency services, the ADC added.
While the district administration and local residents have been working continuously to restore connectivity, the ADC noted that the scale and geographical spread of the damage remain a “matter of serious concern” and that substantial restoration and rehabilitation work is still required.
Advisor NSDMA, Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe, in his short address acknowledge the coordination response of the State and Union Government including the constitution of Inter-Ministerial Central Team to assess damage and requirements.
The Advisor express hope that the ongoing field assessment would help convey the extent of the damage and suffering and facilitate further assistance for relief and recovery.
During the programme a detailed ground assessment reports of the damaged Roads, Houses, Crops, Livestock and Infrastructures caused by the natural calamities since 19th of July 2026, was presented through a PowerPoint presentation by the Deputy Commissioner & Chairman DDMA Longleng, W. Manpai Phom, and Deputy Commissioner & Chairman DDMA Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi NCS.
Joint CEO, NSDMA, Home Department Dr. Jhonny Ruangmei, in his observations said the destruction of surface connectivity in Longleng has acted as a “multiplier of disaster.”
He stated that due to damage of road links, access to essential commodities and movement from one place to another was disrupted. “The entire response mechanism was also disrupted. He informed that in response, Indian Air Force helicopters were deployed for weeks to evacuate stranded people, with more than 100 stranded students, elders and sick patients from the district headquarters as well as from Tamlu and Namsang were evacuated.
Urging the engineering departments that disaster intensities will only increase in the coming years, he said we must ask ourselves whether we are building infrastructure that will last another 50 years, or are we constructing it for just one year”. The CEO added that NSDMA and DDMA are doing their level best to bring in future-ready and resilient infrastructure for the state.
An interactive session between Inter Ministerial Central Team and District Officials was also held during the programme.
Joint Secretary (DM II) MHA, IAS, M. Ramachandrudu, in his remarks said they have toured different parts of Nagaland and witnessed the damage caused by landslides to houses, roads and people. Assuring support, he stated that all necessary measures will be taken at the earliest to restore normalcy in the affected areas.
