Imrong Aier with his graphic novel ‘Somewhere in Time’

It was a proud moment for Imrong Aier on this day the 30 May 2023 as his first Graphic Novel titled “Somewhere in Time” was launched at the Urban Hub Café in Mokokchung. The novel was launched by Dr Lanurenla, the Head of Department of the English Department at Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung. With most of those in attendance being friends and family that are near and dear to the author, the program had a warm and casual atmosphere to it.

The Novel was published by Bookipedia Publications and Bendangrenla, a representative from the publication house had a few words to share about the author’s efforts with the book. In her speech, she likened the process of getting a book published to that of giving birth to a child, noting the painstaking labour the author has to go through during this process.

Imrong Aier, in his speech, mentioned that he was just a freelance painter, but there were concepts and ideas about stories that were distracting him from his work. Instead of fighting them, he decided to put them down on paper in the hope that it would aid his productivity. However, publishing the book was not possibility by himself. It was at this juncture that he met Sentilong Ozukum of Bookipedia Publications who helped him see this project to fruition.

When speaking to Imrong after the event, he said that “Especially in our place, we don’t have many readers. That is why I came up with the idea to include illustrations into the book, to attract younger readers.” While talking about what he hoped readers would take away from his novel, he said that “I pray that those who read my book will see how God can work through someone who thinks of themselves as a nobody”. Looking forward he said that he is half done with another graphic novel ‘Somewhere in Time’, and his readers can expect it within the next one or two years.
