A series of awareness lecture were conducted in Peren on Monday by the Jalukie Battalion Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (North) on ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ to create awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol.
The mega awareness campaign was held at Government Primary School, Tening village, and at Pedi village and Nkwareu village. Around 85 villagers including attended the event that was aimed to address the problem of drug abuse in the region, a statement from the Assam rifles said.
The Jalukie Bn personnel imparted information about the ill effects of drugs and alcohol and also on other problems that could arise in the society. Students were also briefed on how better education and job opportunities can shape their future and were encouraged to refrain from submitting to alcohol, drugs and tobacco. An interactive session was also held with students.

The school authorities and villagers acknowledged the efforts and expressed gratitude to Assam Rifles for their selfless service for the people. The gesture of personnel against the pressing issues of drug abuse was appreciated by everyone who attended the event, the statement added.
