John Yesong Memorial School, Phelungre was celebrated its silver jubilee on October 17 with John Tsulise Sangtam, Secretary, Work & Housing, Government of Nagaland as the Special Guest and Most Rev Dr James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, Nagaland as the Guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, John Tsulise said, “Learning is a lifelong process and the willingness to learn is a choice.” He enlightened students through his life story and hard work, where he had achieved the highest state-level bureaucracy.
He appreciated late John Yesong, a first catechist of the Tuensang district who, along with his late father, had initiated schooling at Loyola Higher Secondary School, Kiphire. He believed hard work lays the foundation, while blessings can provide opportunities, guidance, and support that help navigate challenges. He encouraged students to respect their teachers and strive for academic excellence.
Most Rev Dr James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, during the thanksgiving mass, appreciated those who worked in the past and present. He said, “Silver Jubilee celebration is a moment to reflect on achievements, express gratitude, and look forward with hope and optimism.”
He said the silver jubilee celebration marks a significant milestone, 25 years of unwavering commitment, perseverance, and growth. Renewal is at the heart of this occasion, symbolising a fresh start, revitalised purpose, and renewed commitment, he said adding, silver jubilee celebrations inspire us with the renewal in many aspects of our lives.

Previous to the celebration, Rev Fr Philip Magh, a parish priest, welcomed everyone after which there was a blessing and unfurling of the jubilee monolith by Bishop James and John Tselise Sangtam, followed by the planting of the jubilee Memorial Tree by Special guest, Guest of Honour and Jefin Sam, OC, ‘D’ Coy. There was also the unfurling of the Jubilee Flag by Chumliba, NCS, & Sr. Lucy Jinger SABS, Alumni.
After the Eucharistic celebration, there was a Jubilee felicitation program. Adichum and Ronglila Anar scheduled the items. There were prayer dance, tiny tots presentation, speeches, special songs and a School report by the head teacher, Chothrili. Rev Fr Marius Patton, Principal of JYMS, expressed the vote of thanks and Rev Fr Thomas Toretkiu said the benediction and blessing of the Jubilee meal. There was a common meal served to all.
