The Khulazu Basa Students’ Union (KBSU) held its 68th general session and cultural day under the theme “Krütsazho thikeyhepü dorhükevelü sükeyi” at the Government Primary School – A in Khulazu Basa Village, Phek district on Friday.
Addressing the function, retired assistant director of Social Welfare department and Finance secretary of the Chakhesang Public Organisation, Satahi Shüjo, dwelled on the importance of preserving the rich cultural heritage and traditions.
He urged the younger generations to learn from elders of the past stories, traditions and culture. Saying that one cannot find those information readily available on the internet, he told them to cherish the opportunity to learn stories and traditions directly from those who lived them.
The speaker also laid emphasised on documenting traditions and encouraged for recording of folk songs, stories, and traditional crafts to preserve them for future generations.

Elders must teach the younger generation the folk songs and how to wear traditional clothing as it faced the risk of disappearing if they are not passed on, he added.
Earlier, President KBSU Kuzoto Keyho, President KBSUK Nühüta Tetseo, Chairman Senior Citizen Khulazu Basa Zühücho Rhakho, Acting Chairman Village Council Züvehü Rhakho also addressed the gathering.
Several individuals were acknowledged for bringing laurels to the community in their respective fields. Best parents and teachers were also acknowledged.
Nerenyü Ngolüyi Kezo award, an award to two students for outstanding performances during the academic year 2024, were given to Rakhoyi Rhakho and Khrusalu Rhakho. Meanwhile, Anuvelu Yhosa from GPS A Khulazu Basa was awarded for securing top 8 in class 5 board examination under the SDEO Chozuba circle during the academic year 2024.
Indigenous games including fire making, Naga traditional dice game, tug of war, and war cry were also held.
