Deputy Commissioner of Kiphire, Temsuwati Longkumer, has urged all communities and stakeholders to exercise restraint and cooperate with the district administration in maintaining peace and public order amid reports of emerging tensions between the Yimkhiung and Tikhir communities.

In an advisory issued in continuation of the prohibitory order dated October 10, 2026, and following public notices issued by the United Sangtam Likhum Pumji and the Kiphire District GBs’ Association on the same day, the DC asked all concerned to strictly adhere to the directives of the competent authorities.

The advisory highlighted sensitivities in Zaonger, Pokphur and Longtsunger and urged individuals, community organisations and village authorities to refrain from provocative statements or actions that could aggravate tensions or disturb communal harmony.

Longkumer cautioned against intimidation, threats, physical confrontation, incitement, rumour-mongering and the circulation of unverified information that could create apprehension or hostility between communities. She also urged the public to comply with the prohibitory restrictions in force and cooperate with police and administrative authorities.

Village councils, Gaon Burahs, tribal organisations and community leaders have been asked to sensitise their respective communities, discourage retaliatory actions and facilitate the peaceful resolution of differences through dialogue and established channels.

The DC stated that the district administration, in coordination with the police and other concerned authorities, was closely monitoring the situation. Appropriate legal action would be taken against violations of the applicable orders or any act prejudicial to public peace and security, the advisory stated.

Appealing for responsible conduct and mutual respect, Longkumer said the cooperation of every individual and community was essential to prevent untoward incidents and preserve peace and tranquillity in the district.
