In Kiphire the World Red Cross Day was observed at DC Conference Hall on 8th May 2024 under the Theme “Keeping Humanity Alive” with EAC Kiphire, Takatemjen Pongen as the Special Guest, DIPR has informed. The programme was organised by the Indian Red Cross Society, Kiphire District Branch.
In his speech, Ponjen said that the fact that each country typically has its own Red Cross/Red Crescent Society working both domestically and internationally to alleviate human suffering, collaborating with governments, other humanitarian agencies, and local communities to deliver on its objectives effectively and efficiently, speaks high volume of its importance. He said that this year’s theme “Keeping Humanity Alive” is very appropriate in present personal as well as social scenario.
EAC Kiphire stated, “We must all remember that the Red Cross operates on the principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality.” It alleviates the lives of the people regardless of their nationality, race, religion, or political beliefs, he said.
Pongen also said that one of the most important aspects of the Red Cross Movement’s relevance in today’s world stems from its ability to adapt to evolving humanitarian needs, uphold its core principles, and making a positive difference in the lives of millions of people affected by crises and emergencies world-wide. Today, as we celebrate World Red Cross Day let us recommit to the testament that the Red Cross Society’s significance lies in its unwavering commitment to humanitarian principles, its ability to mobilize resources and impact the lives of millions of people in need around the world, the EAC added.
The highlights of the program were presentation of certificate to members and induction of new members. All the Honorary Secretary, District RCS, Representatives and Students attended the program.
