Kiphire: New school building of St. Luke’s School, Longmatra inaugurated

Kiphire: Most Rev. Dr James Thoppil said that every student is given a lit candle, but it is up to the student whether to share the light with the rest of the society and the world

The new school building of St. Luke’s School, Longmatra in Kiphire district was blessed by Most Rev. Dr James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima and inaugurated by EAC Kiphire, Ane Khieya, NCS on Tuesday.

Khieya, in her address, said she always believed that people of Longmatra have good potential in the education sector, having seen the efforts and dedication of parents for their children’s education which is commendable.

She added that St. Luke’s School will be a beacon of light for the people of Longmatra in imparting quality education. While admitting that she herself was a product of Catholic school, Ane lauded the Catholic organisation for having deep concerns for education even in the remotest part of the town.

Most Rev. Dr James Thoppil, in his address, expressed his gratitude to the Fathers, Sisters and Bishops who are the organisation’s backbone, strength and wealth.

He said that to the Catholic organisation, education is a catalyst for transformation. He said that the primary aim of the catholic school is to bring good Christians and good citizens. The Bishop further said that most officers in Nagaland are educated in Catholic schools and as such questioned if they are practicing what was taught in the schools, to standing by truth in fighting corruption and lawlessness.

Moreover, Most Rev. Dr James Thoppil said that every student is given a lit candle, but it is up to the student whether to share the light with the rest of the society and the world.

Tethsomong J Sangtam, President, Longmatra Area Students Union in his short address mentioned the occasion marks a beginning of history for a better tomorrow for Longmatra people and Sangtams as whole.

LASU president added that the teacher’s ability is not limited by any geography or isolation, therefore, encouraged the teachers to show more dedication to bring out the artist, a poet or a scientist in a child for there is more glory in service to humanity.

Rev Fr Philip Magh, Principal in his welcome address expressed that the long-cherished dream of the people of Longmatra has come to light today.

A brief report of the school by headmaster of St. Luke’s School, Longmatra, a special song was presented by the alumni and vote of thanks was delivered by Alvin Tangethe. The program ended with benediction pronounced by Rev. Fr Peter Pehiachanglu, vice principal.
