Kiphire: Training on ‘Natural Fibre Extraction & Handicrafts’ for SHGs conclude

Training on ‘Natural Fibre Extraction & Handicrafts’ concluded at Zhimkiur Village, Kiphire district.

A two-week training for Self Help Groups (SHGs) on ‘Natural Fibre Extraction & Handicrafts’ concluded at Zhimkiur Village, Kiphire district on Thursday.

The training was organised by Divisional Management Unit (DMU), Kiphire Forest Division in collaboration with Kudatech Skill Centre (KSC), Nagaland tool Room and Training Centre under the Entrepreneurship & Skill Development Programme (ESOP) and was sponsored by the Ministry of Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Industry (MSME), Government of India.

The resource persons, machineries for demonstration and technical inputs were provided through the KSC, while assistance in logistical support as well as community mobilisation for the training programme were provided by DMU, Kiphire.

Over 30 participants took part in the training during which they were briefed about the natural fibres available at their Village. Demonstration on fibre extraction and their use in handicraft were also given.

With the assistance of the trainers, the participants were trained in making various handicrafts including coasters, containers, carry bags, storage bins, fruit baskets, etc.

On the final day of the training a short programme was held in which the Divisional Forest Officer Kiphire, Chisayi, IFS, acknowledged and thanked the Kudatech Skill Centre and all the participants for their contributions to the convergence program’s success.

The DFO stated that such trainings are part of the convergence initiatives which is an effort by the Nagaland Forest Management Project to collaborate and coordinate with allied departments to tap into local skills and resources in order to generate and improve their livelihoods in a sustainable manner. Chisayi therefore urged the participants to avail and make good use of the opportunities provided through this platform.
