KMC condemns theft in its office; assures to bring culprits to justice

In the backdrop of a theft that occurred in its office premises, the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) on Wednesday expressed its anguish and condemnation of the act of burglary.

The KMC, in a press statement asserted its firm stance against the brazen act of lawlessness and maintained its full commitment to ensure that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice. In immediate response to the incident, the civic body said it has formally lodged a first information report (FIR) with the authorities, and that it is extending unreserved cooperation to the investigating agency, providing all necessary assistance to aid their efforts.

“Beyond assisting law enforcement, the municipality has promptly constituted an Internal Assessment Committee. This committee’s primary mandate is to conduct a thorough review of all internal office procedures, identify any potential structural lapses or vulnerabilities that may have contributed to the incident, and implement robust measures to significantly strengthen security protocols across the board,” the council further informed.

Assuring the public that transparency, accountability, and security remain its paramount priorities, the KMC stated that it will continue serving the public “with the utmost integrity and dedication” reaffirming its commitment that criminal activities will not be allowed to undermine the dignity and effective functioning of the institution.

Meanwhile, the KMC appealed to anyone who may possess relevant information pertaining to the burglary to step forward and assist the police in their investigation, and help in ensuring that justice is swiftly and effectively served.

The alleged burglary took place within the KMC office premises on the intervening night of June 2 and it was reported that around Rs.1 crore cash which was being kept for payment of staff salary, was stolen. Police said investigation is ongoing.
