Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Shanavas. C, IAS today said that Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) program are organised with an aim to sensitize the rights of the girl child in legal aspects as well as women’s health hygiene.
Speaking at the launching program of BBBP was organized by the Kohima District Administration in collaboration with Chief Medical Officer, District Welfare Officer, and District Legal Service Authority at New Market, Panchayat Hall today, the DC also urged the participants to grasp the whole idea of this sensitization outreach programme and share their problems with confidence.
Shanavas meanwhile opined that the BBBP (Save the Girl Child, Educate Her) program will elaborate on the topic of gender violence, girl child rights, available schemes for the girl child, POCSO Act, filing of FIR as well as sexual health, menstrual health, and mental health.
He also said that sex-selective abortion or female foeticide has led to a sharp drop in the ratio of girls born in contrast to boy infants in some states in India.
Shanavas said that this scheme is to address concerns of gender discrimination and women empowerment in the country and aims to educate citizens against gender bias and improve the efficacy of welfare services for girls.
The resource persons of the programme were Counsellor, One Stop Centre, Kohima, Medochuiinuo Chielie; Advocate cum Panel lawyer KDLSA Keduvi Zhotso; and MO Zadima PHC, Dr Dangtila Sangtam. The invocation was pronounced by Puchosel Tetseo and the programme was chaired by SDO (Civil) Kohima, Nockpai Konyak (NCS).
