The Kohima District Cricket Association (KDCA) opened its first office on May 23 at Serüzou Colony, Naga Hospital Road, Kohima.
Special Guest Kechangulie Rio, President of Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA), congratulated KDCA on this important milestone exuding hope that the inception of the new office will enhance cricket activities in the district.
“It will not only strengthen the infrastructure for the sport but also bring the cricket-loving community closer to the game. By providing a central hub, the KDCA will foster a direct connection between the association and cricket enthusiasts, encouraging greater participation and engagement,” said Rio.
He acknowledged KDCA’s dedication, as evidenced by their active involvement in organizing tournaments, introducing cricket in the KVSA meet, and supporting the establishment of cricket clubs and conducting interclub T20 tournament and U16 interdistrict tournament. “Your efforts have already made a notable impact, and I am confident that this new office will further amplify your contributions to the sport,” viewed Rio who also expressed optimism that the association will revive the cherished golden era of cricket in Kohima.
“There are ample potential in Kohima for the development of cricket with its diverse population and hidden talents and this is evident with the increase in players representing the state in both the Men and women’s teams, as well as support staff who are now BCCI certified coaches in different levels, S&C coach and even manual scorers,” added Rio.
The NCA President was also of the view that Nagas in general are beginning to understand and appreciate the importance of Cricket not only as a sport but also as a very promising career opportunity. In this regard, the crucial role played by the district associations in facilitating and raising awareness was emphasized. He also urged the KDCA to support NCA’s endeavour in promoting Cricket as a career.

With NCA making concerted efforts to support its associations, and Rio also announced that they now have six practice pitches in the Kohima district, with more pitches to be established in the near future. Further, plans are also underway to set up a mini indoor facility and conduct more camps and programs for both players and support staff. He also assured on behalf of the Nagaland Cricket Association to extend any help that the association can render in promoting the sport and invited the KDCA to come forward with ideas and plans in helping the association achieve its goals to make Nagaland a power house for cricket.
Hyunilo Khing, NCA Secretary, expressed that inaugurating their office after many years is a significant achievement for the association. “This will act as an official space to facilitate growth,” said Khing who recommended involving churches, Sunday schools, and local talents to enhance the association’s reach.
Khing also urged the media to support the cricket association by promoting the game and players through articles to elevate local talents. He also emphasized the clear vision of KDCA and the importance of extending support to them.
Keneilhouzo Sekhose, KDCA General Secretary briefed the year report where he highlighted that eight Officer Bearers were inducted in the team for the tenure 2023-26; 16 Executive Meetings were conducted since taking over the KDCA Office from 2023-24; four tournaments conducted successfully so far; six open trails conducted to selected team to represent Kohima; Kohima team participated in 5 tournaments organized by NCA and 15 Kohima players got selected to play for the Nagaland state team in various tournament organized by BCCI.
Ten girls from Kohima participated in the 3d Edition of Women’s Champions Trophy 2024, where Sekhose mentioned that this was a big jump in participation from previous years where the KDCA sent one female in 2022 and six females in 2023.
Theja Sekhose extended the vote of thanks while KDCA Treasurer ,Vikuonyü Solo chaired the program. Cassius Solo, BRC Associate Pastor blessed the program with invocation while Menguvilie Sakhrie, KDCA President pronounced the opening remark.
During the program Vituo Solo and Merang Aier were felicitated for their tireless effort and dedication to cricket in the past years.
