The Kohima District Task Force for Immunization, encompassing both rural and urban areas, convened a meeting on October 12, to discuss the progress of Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI), Measles-Rubella (MR) Elimination Drive, and Routine Immunization (RI) at the DPDB Conference Hall in Kohima.
According to a DIPR report, Dr. Khrievilhou Nakhro, District Programme Officer for Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) and Universal Immunization Program (UIP) in Kohima, provided an overview of the status of Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 5.0 and MR Elimination Drive. He reported that these campaigns have achieved significant success, with a coverage rate of over 95%. However, there are still some individuals who have not been vaccinated due to reasons such as migration, refusal, and sickness during the vaccination sessions. These campaigns began in August and are scheduled to continue until October 14, 2023, within the Kohima District. Dr. Nakhro expressed optimism that the remaining individuals will be covered during the final round from October 9 to 14, 2023. He extended his gratitude to the administration, various line departments, and all stakeholders for their continuous support in ensuring the success of these initiatives.
The meeting also included updates on MDR (Measles, Diphtheria, and Rubella) by the NHAK team and insights into the activities, interventions, and experiences related to IMI/RI in both urban and rural areas from July to October 2023, presented by a member of the Indian Social Responsibility Network (ISRN).
A member of the team responsible for the City Embrace Model (CTFI – CEM) highlighted the status and activities of the initiative. This project, initiated by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, involved micro-planning and orientation programs at various Sub-Centers, Urban Primary Health Centers (UPHCs), and Primary Health Centers (PHCs). It was also mentioned that the team plans to organize outreach sessions in outlying areas of the city in the near future. However, the team encountered operational challenges, such as inadequate basic infrastructure, a shortage of human resources, and poor coordination among line departments. All stakeholders were urged to cooperate more closely to overcome these challenges and ensure the successful implementation of the project.
