Kohima police notifies advisory on vehicle modifications

Kohima police on Thursday notified that any modification to a vehicle deviating from the manufacturer’s specifications constitutes a violation of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988m (MVA) and related regulations.

In a release, the police informed that prohibited modifications specifically include

modification of exhaust systems (notably in two-wheelers); retrofitting of excessively bright or non-standard LED lights; unauthorized installation of sirens or blinkers; application of tinted films reducing visibility on windshields and windows.

Kohima police said it will intensify enforcement against those violations and rigorously enforce the provisions of law in the coming days. Any vehicle found contravening the MVA will be liable to seizure, and the owner/operator will face legal consequences as prescribed by law, it warned and directed vehicle users to ensure their vehicles adhere strictly to approved specifications and avoid modifications not explicitly permitted.
