Kohima Police seize heroin, opium in two major anti-drug operations, 4 held

In a continued crackdown on the illegal drug trade, the Kohima Police recovered substantial quantities of suspected heroin, opium and apprehending four individuals in two separate operations carried out on May 5 and 12.

Acting on a strategy of heightened vigilance, a mobile unit from the Kohima Police was on routine patrolling under the jurisdiction of Khuzama Police Station. At approximately 4.20 p.m. on May 5, the team intercepted a suspicious Maruti Alto (registration number NL07CD 5992) traveling from Kidima towards Viswema.

During a thorough search of the vehicle, police personnel uncovered 25 soap cases containing suspected heroin (Shan Flower). The total weight of the contraband was approximately 302 grams. In connection with the recovery, two occupants of the vehicle were immediately arrested. They have been identified as Kharamo Aziah (28 yrs) and AL Keystone (39 yrs).

In another significant seizure, on May 12, a mobile unit team of Kohima Police while on a routine patrolling under Kezocha PS jurisdiction, intercepted a Mahindra Bolero (registration number AS03X 1718) at Kidima which was travelling towards Kohima from Mao.

During a thorough search of the vehicle, six packets of suspected Opium weighing approximately six kg (1 kg per packet) were uncovered from the left speaker compartment of the said vehicle. In this connection, two occupants of the vehicle identified as Mohan Chhetry (M) and R  Chaonai (F) were arrested.

Following the two successfully seizures of NDPS, formal case have been registered at Khuzama PS and Kezocha PS respectively, and further investigation is underway to uncover the linkages of these trafficking networks.

Stating that these operations underscore the unwavering commitment of the Kohima Police to the fight against drug abuse and substance trafficking, the Kohima Police appealed to citizens to share any information related to drug peddling or suspicious activities. Informants’ identities would be kept confidential, it added.
