The Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has expressed its deep disappointment and disillusionment against Temjen Imna Along, Minister Higher Education, for what it termed as “blatant exploitation of Wangkhao Government College, lone college of Mon District, as a pretext for justifying recent decisions”.
“Our institution, one of the oldest in the state, has long suffered from a crippling shortage of professors, exacerbated by the persistent deployment of faculty members elsewhere, despite their continued receipt of salaries from Wangkhao Government College. While the KSU has consistently championed the cause of appointing adequate teaching staff, we have never advocated for contractual or temporary appointments. Instead, we firmly believe in the importance of a fair and competitive selection process, as mandated by our established institutional framework, to recruit the most qualified candidates,” the KSU stated in a press statement issued today.

The Union expressed its dismay that the college was cited as a justification for the regularization of 147 Assistant Professors and librarian. The KSU also questioned: “Was the government’s decision to regularize these appointments solely motivated by the circumstances prevailing at Wangkhao Govt. College?”
“Let us be clear: the Konyak Students’ Union stands in solidarity with the concerned aspirants and students in demanding a complete rollback of the regularization order,” expressed the KSU.
