The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kiphire and line departments, has reported the following damages caused by landslides in various part of the district.
As per reports received as of July 20, a total of 9 houses were damaged by landslides, including 7 in Kiphire and 2 in Pungro, Retaining Walls at Tsuwong Ward, Pungro and Seyochung Village were also damage.
Road Connectivity has also been affected, with road blockages along O2 Road, Pungro, Penkim – Fakim Road and road leading to Zisaji Presidency College, Kiphire.
Emergency Response and Relief operations has been undertaken including Road clearance work, issuing of SDRF forms and providing Tarpaulins.
Meanwhile, in view of the ongoing monsoon season and the heightened risk of landslides, mudslides, flash floods and other rain-related hazards, the Additional Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kiphire, Longdiba L. Sangtam, NCS, has urged residents to remain vigilant and take necessary safety precautions.
In an advisory, the DDMA appealed to the public to avoid landslide- and mudslide-prone areas, steep slopes and other vulnerable locations during periods of heavy rainfall.

Residents have been advised to remain alert for warning signs such as ground cracks, falling rocks, tilting trees or electric poles, and unusual sounds that may indicate an impending landslide. People have also been cautioned against approaching or attempting to cross active landslides, mudslides or unstable areas.
The advisory further urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, particularly on roads susceptible to landslides and mudslides, and to exercise extreme caution if travel is unavoidable. Motorists have been warned not to stop or park vehicles near unstable slopes, road cuttings or areas with loose soil and rocks.
The DDMA also advised people to stay away from swollen streams, overflowing drains and riverbeds, and not to attempt crossing flooded roads, streams or culverts where water flow is strong.
As part of emergency preparedness, households have been encouraged to keep an emergency kit ready with essential medicines, drinking water, dry food, a torch, batteries and important documents.

The DDMA appealed to all residents to remain cautious, follow official advisories and cooperate with authorities to ensure public safety during the ongoing monsoon season.
