Nagaland’s Lok Sabha MP and President of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), S Supongmeren Jamir conducted field inspection of the ongoing Kohima Bypass Project (PKG-1) and the collapsed section of National Highway-2 near the Kisama exit gate on June 7.

During his visit to the Kohima Bypass (PKG-1) site, Jamir emphasized on the importance of collaborative efforts among all stakeholders—landowners, government officials, and executing agencies. He underscored the need for mutual understanding to ensure uninterrupted progress, stating that while judicial processes will take their course, project work must not be stalled.

The Executive Director (Projects) of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) briefed the MP on the long-standing delay in tunnel construction.

It was reported that the tunnel work had been halted for 14 months due to landowner objections, resulting in structural collapse and deformation. The official noted that an additional one and a half  years would now be required for complete restoration of the affected site.

Later, Jamir inspected the collapsed site on NH-2 near the Kisama exit gate. Expressing serious concern over the situation, he urged the concerned authorities to take swift and effective action.

NHIDCL officials present at the site informed the MP that the necessary proposals have already been submitted and that restoration work was expected to be completed within 10 days. They also conveyed that the Government of Manipur was exerting pressure as well for early completion of the repairs.

Jamir assured that he would meet with the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima at the earliest to help expedite the process.

He further proposed that landowner identification could be streamlined through the active engagement of the respective villages to avoid unnecessary delays in the restoration works.
