In a first of its kind in Mokokchung District, Longkhum Village launched its “Longkhum Tourism Website” at the Tourist Lodge Longkhum on September 27. The initiative is sponsored by the Late Dr. I. Longrizung Trust. The launch ceremony was virtually inaugurated by Imtisenla Pongen, Senior Tourism Officer of Mokokchung.
L. Alemtemsu Ao, representing the Dr. Longrizung Trust, highlighted the activities supported by the trust which included organizing healthcare camps to address the lack of medical facilities, providing financial grants to MBBS students from Longkhum Village, and presenting the “Dr. I. Longrizung Excellence Award” to top-performing students from Fazli Ali College, where Dr. I. Longrizung was a founding member. The trust also extends its assistance to the development of tourism in Longkhum, added Ao.

With the unveiling of the website, plans are in motion to enhance the local community’s capabilities in tourism management. The Trust Fund will sponsor training programs for villagers, conduct sensitization initiatives, and hire a competent receptionist from the village itself to manage website activities for a period of 5 years. The family of Dr. I. Longrizung Trust Fund will provide the necessary digital infrastructure, including computers, printers, and a WiFi connection for efficient data management.

Furthermore, the trust expressed its willingness to assist neighbouring villages or tourist destinations in launching similar websites or supporting their tourism-related endeavours.

Speaking about the tourism website, Er. Atoba A. Longkumer, grandson of Dr. I. Longrizung said, “Today’s digital age, websites and brochures are the primary digital tools to connect Longkhum with the rest of the world. The website has been designed to showcase the village’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, popular attractions, and geographical locations, complete with a map for directions from various districts.”

Er. Atoba A. Longkumer expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in contributing to the success of the launching program, representing various walks of life. Promoting tourism comes with significant responsibilities, especially regarding the Longkhum Tourism Policy for Tourism Management, added Longkumer.

Tongpang Longchar, Longkhum Tourism Officer of Mokokchung, shared insights on the challenges faced in the early days of local tourism, particularly language barriers. He said that the Longkhum Tourism Committee started with seven members and in collaboration with Longkhum Students Union have been overseeing the village tourism over the past two decades.
“Today’s launch of the Longkhum Tourism website is very important, as it will significantly enhance tourism in the village and promote tourism not only in Longkhum Village or Mokokchung District but also throughout the entire state and a step towards connecting Longkhum with the global audience and fostering cultural exchange,” remarked Longchar.
