A consultative meeting of the Ward Waste Management Committee (WMC), chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner and Administrator of Longleng Town, Thungchanbemo Tungoe, NCS, resolved to strengthen sanitation services and implement the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 across Longleng Town.

The meeting decided to roll out door-to-door collection of segregated waste in all wards from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with waste collection vehicles stopping for at least 20 minutes in each ward.

A monthly user fee of Rs 50 per household was fixed, of which Rs 10 will be earmarked for WMC operations. The WMC will collect the fees, deposit them in the designated bank account or submit them to the Administrator’s office, and identify waste collection points, household numbers and suitable locations for elevated secondary waste storage platforms.

The meeting also directed all households to adopt dual-bin waste segregation. The Longleng Town Council and WMC will enforce penalties under the new rules for littering, improper disposal of waste, including biodegradable waste and animal carcasses at secondary storage sites, and for open burning of waste.

To promote recycling, the Urban Local Body (ULB) will purchase segregated plastic waste at ₹10 per kilogram.

The house further decided that ward authorities and concerned departments may withhold the issuance of essential documents and public distribution services in cases of non-payment of the user fee.

A complaint redressal cell will become operational immediately at the Administrator’s office, while the WMC will be informed promptly in the event of vehicle breakdowns or disruptions in sanitation services.
