Lt. Supou Memorial Award to be given to meritorious girl students under BBBP Noklak

Noklak: BBBP activities to focus on advancing girl education, women empowerment, improvement in healthcare

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Noklak was officially launched on Saturday at a program held at the DC’s Office Complex, Noklak. During the event, the district administrative announced the Late Supou Memorial Award which will be given to meritorious girls in memory of late Supou from Noklak’s Pang village. The 25-year-old student was murdered in Dimapur on 8th May 2023.

Speaking on the occasion, Arikumba, Deputy Commissioner Noklak stated that the objectives of BBBP includes improvement in the child sex ratio, ensuring gender equality and women empowerment, prevention of gender-biased practices, ensuring survival and protection of the girl child and encouraging education and participation of the girl child in all walks of life.

He further requested all the stakeholders to extend their full cooperation for the successful implementation of the scheme.

Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) Noklak Vikhoto Richa, while highlighting the Noklak District Action Plan for BBBP, mentioned that the scheme would be subsequently launched in all the sub-divisions of the district. He stated that the activities would mostly focus on creation of awareness in the district, advancing education among girls, women empowerment through skill development and improvement in healthcare access and sensitisation.

In addition, he announced the institution of Late Supou Memorial Award for meritorious achievers under BBBP Noklak which is an award that will be conferred annually to meritorious girl students of Class 10 and Class 12 in the district.

On behalf of line departments, Medical Officer, District Hospital Noklak Dr Chongnya and Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Noklak Bendangsunep delivered short speeches on the occasion, stressing on the different schemes being implemented by their respective departments in connection with women and girls.

Chingkoi, President of Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam and Songmao, Archery Coach and District SVEEP Icon, Noklak also exhorted the gathering during the programme.

Earlier, a special number was presented by Chilliam of Government Higher Secondary School. Noklak while the program was chaired by EAC Noklak, Kathyinla. The program was attended by officials of various departments, Civil Society Organisation, students and teachers.
