Man, arrested for rape of minor in Kohima district, admits to crime

Kohima: Police says criminal investigation is still in progress

Kohima Police has arrested one person in connection to the rape of a minor, Public Relations Officer (Def), Kohima informed in a press note on Monday. The police also stated that the individual admitted to committing the crime.

The accused has been named as one Vilie alias Avilie Mere, 20-years-old, of Tsiesema Basa Village under Kohima District. Police has said that the rape case is registered at Women Police Station, Kohima and that the criminal investigation is still in progress.

The Northern Angami Women Organisation (NAWO) had earlier condemned the inhuman act on a 5-year-old and mentioned that the crime took place on 9 July 2023 at Tsiesema Village.

While expressing its solidarity with the rape survivor, the family and the community, NAWO demanded, “the perpetrator(s) must be held accountable for their reprehensible actions and receive appropriate punishment, demonstrating that such acts will not go unpunished or tolerated in any way.”
