The office of I/c Central Control Room, Ist MR Imphal, Manipur, Jhalajit Singh, IPS, on Thursday stated that it regrets its 24 May 2023 press note where it had called the attack on four Tangkhul women at Kwakeithel Bazaar, Imphal as “ABSOLUTELY FALSE AND THERE IS NO INCIDENT AS SUCH.”
The retraction comes after several Tangkhul organisations condemned the act and demanded an apology from Singh. The office also stated that “on further verification of the incident, the press note was never officially issued.”

The Tangkhul Welfare Society Mumbai (TWSM) had strongly condemned the attack on four of its active members in Imphal on Wednesday while they were on their way to Imphal Airport to travel to Mumbai.
In its statement, TWSM said that it was deeply saddened and angered by the barbaric incident where the four women were dragged out of the auto rickshaw by their hair for no reason and roughened up. ‘Even after pleading and saying “We are Tangkhuls” repeatedly, they did not listen and kept harassing them,’ the Tankhul society stated.
It further condemned Jhalajit Singh, IPS, I/c Central Control Room, Ist MR Imphal, Manipur for dismissing the incident as ‘rumour’.
TWSM urged the concerned authority officials ‘to carry out their duties diligently and more responsibly, to avoid and dissolve any enmity which is already causing havoc in the state.’ It also appealed for justice and an official apology from Singh for ‘circulating cover-up letter and suppressing the truth.’
