Manipur has once again won the Overall Champion at the North East Games as the region’s biggest sporting event concluded today in Nagaland. Manipur has now won all three editions proving why it is called a ‘powerhouse in sports’.
Despite the ongoing turmoil back home and practices being affected, the athletes from Manipur hauled an impressive 130 medals, including 52 Gold, 38 Silver, and 40 Bronze.
After giving the Overall Champion a competitive run at the 3rd North East Games, Nagaland came second at the end of the event. Securing a total of 134 medals that included 48 Gold, 42 Silver, and 44 Bronze medals, Nagaland’s athletes showcased a commendable performance and made the State very proud.

Nagaland had finished in the fifth place at the 2nd North East Olympic Games held in Meghalaya in 2022. This reflects the remarkable sportsmanship and growth of sports in the region, a very delighted Nagaland Olympic Association stated.
Assam secured the 3rd position with a total of 139 medals. With 43 Gold, 44 Silver, and 52 Bronze medals, Assam’s journey to the top spot was intense until the very last game, demonstrating the competitive spirit and dedication of their athletes.
In addition to the medal tally, special recognition was awarded to outstanding individuals and states for their exemplary contributions to the games during the 3rd North East Games 2024:
The Fair Play Award was presented to Sikkim for demonstrating the highest standards of sportsmanship and fair play throughout the event.
The Spirit of Olympic Award was bestowed upon Tripura for embodying the values of sportsmanship, unity, and excellence.
The Outstanding Sportsman Award was earned by Venuzo Dawhuo of Nagaland, who made history by winning gold medals in two different sports disciplines. Dawhuo clinched gold in shot put and discus throw in athletics, and also secured the gold medal in belt wrestling in the 100+ category.
The Outstanding Sportswoman Award was bestowed upon Tsuchoi. T of Nagaland, who showcased exceptional athleticism and versatility by winning four gold medals in athletics, including the 5000 meters, mixed rally, and women’s cross-country team events. Additionally, Tsuchoi. T secured two silver medals in the women’s cross-country and 4×4 100 rally events.
