Meluri: Murugan become first Union Minister to visit Avangkhu, first village on Indo-Myanmar border

Phek: The Union Minister announced that the two lane road upto Avangkhu border has already been sanctioned and that work will begin soon

Dr. L Murugan, Union MoS for Information & Broadcasting, Fisheries, Veterinary & Dairying, became the first Union Minister to visit Avangkhu village, India’s first village on the Indo-Myanmar border in Meluri Sub-division, Phek district of Nagaland, PIB informed.

Speaking at the public interaction programme held at the International Trade Centre in Avangkhu, Dr Murugan reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vison that border villages are not the last villages, but the first village and that the country’s development should begin from there.

He also highlighted India’s seriousness towards the Act East Policy and announced that the two lane road upto Avangkhu border has already been sanctioned and that work will begin soon. The Union Minister said that the road will pave the way for the development of border regions. He expressed the hope that the International Trade Centre at Avangkhu will also witness increased business activities due to increase in trade volume and better connectivity.

Accompanied by other officials, Murugan also visited the India-Myanmar border to take stock of the exact situation prevailing there.

The Union Minister flew into the remote village from Phek HQs in a chopper on Saturday morning where he was given a rousing traditional welcome by the villagers, leaders and womenfolk.
