Memorial honouring martyr Nokzar Ao inaugurated at Mokokchung’s Mamengtong

Mokokchung: Village road in Mamengtong named ‘Nokzar Ao Road’, after fallen hero

Maj Gen Vikas Lakhera, Sena Medal, Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) and Kika Sangla, mother of Late Rifleman (General Duty) Nokzar Ao, jointly inaugurated ‘Nokzar Ao Memorial’ at Mangmetong village in Mokokchung district on 16th January 2024.

The memorial has been built in the memory of Late Rifleman (General Duty) Nokzar Ao of 12 Assam Rifles who laid down his life for the country and attained martyrdom on 14 April 2009 at Chassad, Manipur, the Assam Rifles stated in a press release.

Nokzar Ao was only 26 when he laid down his life for the nation. For his gallant act and supreme sacrifice, Late Rifleman Nokzar Ao was awarded with Police Medal for Gallantry posthumously.

The memorial was inaugurated in the presence of the Braveheart’s family members, Village Council Members, Assam Rifles personnel and villagers.

A village road in Mamengtong was also named ‘Nokzar Ao Road’, after the fallen hero.

At this solemn occasion, a small function was organised where Village Council Members, family members and IG spoke about the life and supreme sacrifice of the Braveheart.
